IUCD Fittings:

IUCD insertion no longer requires Chlamydia screening.
All Practices please note the new SIGN 109 guideline.

Routine screening for Chlamydia in asymptomatic patients has not been shown to be cost effective and the guideline recommends that ‘Resources for Chlamydia testing in women should be targeted where prevalence is known to be highest, ie first those aged 15-19 and then those aged 20-24’, and other at risk groups as defined in the guideline. Where the clinician decides that a Chlamydia test would not be indicated, “Chlamydia screening declined” (8I3T.) should be recorded on the Escro IUCD screen.
